5 Things You've GOTTA TRY This Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend 2017 is practically here, and at some point during this extended holiday, you have to get yourself to the best waterfront bar and restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks. If you've never had the pleasure of a day at Dog Days Bar & Grill, you're missing one of the best experiences that the lake area has to offer. Even if you are a repeat customer, we've always got something new and exciting in store for you. Here are 5 things that you've simply got to try at some point during this Labor Day weekend.

Chillin' in the Pool
We've got lots of room for you to sit and enjoy some delicious food and a few refreshing drinks. There's the air-conditioned dining room inside and lots of tables outdoors on the lakeside decks. So far this year though, the best seats in the house have been in the water, chilling out in our brand new pools!

There's lots of room for the whole family to hang out together in the first pool. The larger pool is party central for the adults, with in-water tables to hold the drinks you get from the swim-up bar, plus colorful lounge chairs in the shallow spots to catch some sun. We're relaxed just writing about it!

Logboat Beer
Our amazing Lake of the Ozarks waterfront bars (there are 3 of them on site!) are fully stocked with lots of different ice-cold beer varieties, but on Saturday, Sept. 2, Logboat Brewing Co. out of Columbia, Missouri will be here giving out samples of their many incredible local brews.

They will be here as a part of the Labor Day Log Jam at the Lake from 12:30-5:00. This exciting event is also sponsored by the Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival team out of Columbia. They'll be bringing a fantastic blues band along with them, King Benny, to give you a taste of the unbelievable music coming your way at their annual mid-Missouri festival at the end of September. Beer, blues, and the Dog... you just know that's gonna be awesome!

Beach Bowls
This season's menu added some delicious Beach Bowls to our collection of unforgettable dishes that not only taste amazing, but are also filled with healthy ingredients full of savory flavors. If you want to try something new, we highly suggest one of these.
  • Chicken Stir Fry Bowl - Sauteed Chinese vegetables and grilled chicken tossed with a sweet teriyaki sauce on a bed of long grain wild rice and quinoa.
  • Maui Fish Bowl - Blackened filets of Mahi-Mahi topped with peas, carrots, fresh mango, and a coconut curry sauce with long grain wild rice and quinoa.
  • The Vegan Bowl - Sauteed Kohlrabi, brussel sprouts, rainbow carrots, kale, spinach, quinoa, fresh herbs, and garlic.
  • Thai Chicken Bowl - Tamarind marinated chicken grilled and served on top of long grain wild rice and quinoa. Topped with fresh mango, peppadew, fresh cilantro, and a sweet Thai chili sauce.

The Dance Floor
For those of you that like to dance, and even those of you that prefer to sit and simply listen, we've got a lineup of the best live music at the Lake of the Ozarks for the Labor Day holiday. It all starts Friday night and continues until the wee hours of the morning after midnight on Sunday.

Friday, Sept. 1
-Randymann Band, 6 pm - 10 pm
-Funhouse, 9:30 pm - 1 am

Saturday, Sept. 2
-LABOR DAY LOG JAM
with King Benny-
-Atomic Sunburns, 5 pm - 9 pm
-Pearl, 10 pm - 1 am

Sunday, Sept. 3
-Boomchux, 5 pm - 9 pm
-Mixtapes, 10 pm - 1 am

A Pain in the A**
When it comes to summer, enjoying a refreshing frozen drink lakeside is a special treat you can't deprive yourself of. A trip to the Lake of the Ozarks means you've gotta have a classic Pain in the A**! Ask anyone and they're sure to agree, it's a lake area staple. It's a Pina Colada alongside a Rum Runner (yes, in the same cup) and if you're really daring, add a floater! (Just ask for it, the bartender will know what you're talking about.)

There's your Labor Day weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks bucket list for 2017. You should be able to get that all done in one trip to Dog Days Bar & Grill, but don't feel like you have to rush yourself. We're open daily at 11 am, so you can come back anytime you like over the holiday, and even after the holiday. No matter when you show up, it's always a party at the Dog!

This Labor Day Weekend at the Dog is Jam-Packed!

What are you doing for Labor Day weekend? It's only a few days away, and the best waterfront bar & restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks has come up with quite a few reasons below why you need to get yourself to the Dog this holiday weekend!

*The Music
One of the highlights of Labor Day weekend at Dog Days Bar & Grill is the incredible entertainment we have lined up for you each year, and this year is no exception! On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we've got double musical features lined up with your favorite musicians, plus a can't-miss event.

Friday, Sept. 1
-Randyman Band, 6 pm -10 pm
-Funhouse, 9:30 pm - 1 am

Saturday, Sept. 2
-LABOR DAY LOG JAM AT THE LAKE
with King Benny-
-Atomic Sunburns, 5 pm - 9 pm
-Pearl, 10 pm - 1 am

Sunday, Sept. 3
-Boomchux, 5 pm - 9 pm
-Mixtapes, 10 pm - 1 am

*The Labor Day Log Jam
Last week's blog told you to "Get Ready for the Labor Day Log Jam at the Lake," and we hope you arranged your plans so that you won't miss it! Columbia's own Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival team, Logboat Brewing Co., and 102.3 are joining the Dog for a party on Saturday, Septempber 2 from 12:30 pm - 5:00 pm that you DO NOT want to miss.

Logboat Brewing Co. will have samples of their delicious beer for you to try, and there will be cool free stuff given away all afternoon too. The festival team will be bringing a taste of the amazing music you can experience at the Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival in September with King Benny from Louisiana, MO. Check them out in the amazing video below.

*The Pools
Surely you've had a chance to experience the best pools at the Lake of the Ozarks already this year, but if you haven't, be sure you take a dip this Labor Day weekend. We can only keep it open as long as the weather cooperates, and you never know how quickly Autumn weather will sneak up on us.

The larger pool has an awesome swim-up bar so you don't have to leave the water to quench your thirst, and there are even tables with umbrellas in the pool to hold your drinks. You'll also find some colorful lounge chairs to, well, lounge in, also in the water, plus plenty of comfortable seating all around the pool area.

Our smaller pool is a family friendly area, separated from the swim-up bar, where your kids can splash to their heart's content without getting pool water into someone's drink. Adults can seat themselves on the divider in-between and enjoy the best of both worlds!

Dog Days Bar & Grill, Lake of the Ozarks

*The Treats
All of those things mentioned above will keep you entertained while you are at Dog Days Bar & Grill, but it's the amazing food and incredible drinks that bring you here in the first place! This season's food menu features many of your traditional Dog Days favorites, like Crab Legs, Seafood Nachos, and our Chef's Signature Burgers. We've also added many new items that have been extremely popular over the summer. If you haven't gotten a chance to try our Beach Bowls yet, get over here before we close for the season! We've added some unbelievable variations on your average taco, too.

Between the tiki bar in the Dog Pound overlooking the water, the inside bar, and the newly built swim-up bar (which can also be accessed on one side out of the water,) a refreshing drink is always close at hand. Whether you're in the mood for a frozen cocktail, an ice-cold beer, or a hand-mixed cocktail, we've got it all!

*The Ongoing Events
Some people may try to convince you that the lake area shuts down once Labor Day weekend is over, but they are VERY wrong about that! Eventually we'll shut down for the season, but not right away, and sometimes the weeks after this holiday are some of the best to plan a visit. Fewer crowds to wrestle with, but still all the same fun to be had!

The next big event that our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront bar & restaurant is excited about is the Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest, taking place September 13-17. We'll have more about that gigantic event next week. Until then, decide which of the things happening above you simply cannot miss, then fit them into your Labor Day weekend itinerary. (You're more than welcome to stay for them all!) Dog Days Bar & Grill is the best place to celebrate your holiday, and we always have a lot more fun when you're here with us!

Don't Miss the Eclipse Party at Dog Days Bar & Grill!

What do you do when a rare total solar eclipse is coming? The best waterfront restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks throws a party, and you should make plans to join us! On Monday, August 21, 2017 from 11 am - 4 pm, Dog Days Bar & Grill is throwing a "Party at the Center of the Universe" to celebrate this awesome natural phenomena.

Party at the Dog
We simply couldn't pass up the chance to make this incredible event one of the epic parties you've come to expect from Dog Days Bar & Grill! We've teamed up with Major Brands and Lens Mart Optical to make it happen from 11-4 pm on Monday, August 21.

We'll be featuring celestial drink specials with Absolut Vodka, Malibu Rum, and Jameson Irish Whiskey. Music will be provided by the Taz & Dr. Cheese Drum & DJ show to make things even more festive, and we're even providing the special eyewear you need to safely get a gander at the solar eclipse. The specialists from Lens Mart Optical, located in Camdenton & Osage Beach, will be on hand to to answer questions and offer assistance to everyone viewing this awesome sight.

Total Eclipse of the Sun
This month we will be experiencing a solar eclipse. This happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, and the moon blocks the sun from our sight, either partially or completely. Depending on where in the country you are watching from, this will make a difference on whether you see a partial or full solar eclipse. The "path of totality" is a 70 mile wide ribbon that will cross the U.S.A. from west to east. We expect the majority of coverage in our area sometime after 1:00 pm.

Solar Eclipse Viewing Safety
Dr. Erin Gagnon from Lens Mart Optical gave us some valuable information about how the solar eclipse should properly be viewed. You can follow them on the Lens Mart Facebook page or visit Lensmartoptical.com
  • Wear approved solar eclipse viewers.
Regular eyewear is not safe for looking directly at a partially eclipsed sun. You need to be wearing special-purpose solar filters that meet international standard ISO 12312-2 for safe viewing. Special "eclipse glasses" meet these specifications (which we'll have on hand at the Dog Days Eclipse Party!) You risk damaging your eyes if you look at the solar eclipse with only sunglasses, smoked glass, unfiltered telescopes or magnifiers, or polarizing filters.
  • Cover eyes BEFORE looking.
To make sure that you do not accidentally get a direct view of the solar eclipse, put special eyewear on before turning toward the sun. Once the glasses are securely in place, glance at the sun, but turn your eyes away before removing the eyewear again.
  • Be aware of signs of eye damage.
Once the moon has completely covered the sun, this is the only time it may be safe to look up without the glasses, but once it begins reappearing, special eyewear should be replaced immediately. If you have looked into the sun without proper protection, "solar retinopahty" may occur. This is damage to the tissue at the back of your eye, or retina. This damage can be temporary, but in some cases it's permanent. Your retina does not have pain receptors, so be very aware of any changes to your vision, and contact your eye doctor immediately if you are worried.
Watch With Us!
Amazing experiences like this are always better when you share them with a fun group of people, and that's exactly the type of person that hangs out at our family friendly Lake of the Ozarks waterfront restaurant. Plan to be here when we open at 11:00 am and grab a seat on the deck or chill out in the pool and watch the show from there. This is an event you do not want to miss, which can only be made better by enjoying right here with us at Dog Days Bar & Grill
