5 Ways to Enjoy the Holidays at the Lake of the Ozarks

If you think that the Lake area shuts down completely after the summer, you will be happily surprised at all of the fun events happening this winter.  Your favorite waterfront restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks may have closed its doors until next Spring, but this town is still full of fun and excitement to entertain you over the holidays.  Here are a few of Dog Days Bar & Grill's favorite ways to celebrate the Christmas season at the Lake of the Ozarks.  

#1 - Get out & get active.

Even though the weather is colder and it is tempting to get cozy under a blanket on the couch and binge watch your favorite shows, don't do it!  At least, not the entire season. There are lots of ways to stay active in the winter at the Lake.

• Jingle Jog 5K

The first in what should become an annual holiday fun-run, is the Jingle Jog for the Tri-County YMCA of the Ozarks.  Call 573-348-9230 to register early for $20, or $25 the day of on Friday, December 11.  You can run or walk the 5K,  or take part in a shorter 2-mile walk.  Santa will be waiting at the finish line with hot cocoa, music, and games.  

• Ice skating

Old Kinderhook in Camdenton has an awesome outdoor ice skating rink, and on the weekends, you may even find Santa and his elves hanging out.  

• Water park

Tan-Tar-A's Timber Falls Water Park lets you enjoy water fun year-round.  Waterslides, a whirlpool, and a lazy river.  If it's too cold to get into the lake, this is a nice alternative.  

• Laser Tag

Running around Lazer Force Lazer Tag in Osage Beach will completely make you forget the cold weather outside.  For a competitive day of action, this is a great place to go.  

#2 - Take in a show.

There are a lot of chances for you to get out and enjoy some amazing live entertainment this holiday seasons.  Here are just a few:

• Lake Area Community Orchestra & Chorale

The Lake Arts Council's calendar is filled with lots of entertaining events, including many holiday performances throughout the entire month of December from both the orchestra and chorale.  

• Main Street Music Hall

For an incredible evening full of Christmas music and comedy, get tickets for Main Street Music Hall's 2015 holiday show.  For the full schedule and ticket information, call 573-348-9500 or visit www.lakemusichall.com.    

• The Nutcracker Ballet

The Royal Theatre in Verailles is presenting this Christmas classic on December 11 & 12 at 7 pm.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages 3-18.  Call 573-378-6226 for more details.  

#3 - Enjoy the holiday decorations.

You are sure to see holiday beauty everywhere that you look.  Here are a few highlights to check out.  

• Lake Ozark Christmas Parade & Lake Holiday Bonfire

The annual "Christmas Magic" parade will be making its way across the Bagnell Dam Strip on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 1 pm.  Afterwards, at 4:30 pm, Santa's caravan will be leaving Eagle's Landing and heading back below the dam for the Lake Holiday Bonfire featuring hot chocolate, coffee, and refreshments for the entire family.  

• Holiday Lights in Osage Beach

The Osage Beach City Park is a perfect place to begin your holiday light-watching cruise around the area.  There are also many beautiful displays along Osage Beach Parkway in addition to the park itself.  

• Holiday Lights in Laurie

St. Patrick's Festival of Lights is going on until January 1, 2016 from 6 pm - 9 pm every evening, and is free and open to the public.  The Enchanted Village of Lights at the Laurie Fairgrounds is also lit up nightly starting at 5 pm.  It is also free, but all donations collected will be used to make it even bigger and better next year.    

• Holiday Lights from the water

Celebration Cruises is hosting the 5th Annual Deck the Docks tour showcasing all of the beautiful holiday decorations seen from the lake.  There are lots of gorgeous displays on docks and lakefront homes all around the area.  Cruises are $25 per person, and the proceeds benefit the Dogwood Animal Shelter.  Live entertainment is donated by local musicians and delicious appetizers are donated from area restaurants.  This fills up fast, so reserve your tickets early.  


#4 - Go to a party.  

• Christmas For Kids

Most of the area residents have been looking forward to this favorite Lake of the Ozarks annual holiday event since last year.  Sunday, December 13, bring a new, unwrapped toy and $20 (or no toy & $40) to the Country Club Hotel & Spa in Lake Ozark.  This year they are trying to help at least 1800 children in the local area enjoy their Christmas. There will be a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, and live music from both Shawn C. and Captain Geech & the Shrimp Shack Shooters.  For more information or to become a table sponsor, visit the Lake Area Christmas For Kids website.  

• Wobbly Boots New Year's Eve Party

Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is going to feature one of Dog Days Bar & Grill's favorite bands this New Year's Eve - Funhouse!  They will begin playing around 9 pm so you can dance your way into 2016.  Keep an eye on the Wobbly Boots Roadhouse page for more details about the awesome specials they are planning for the night too.  

#5 - Throw a party of your own.  

Invite a bunch of your friends and family over to your place this season and host a big bash of your own!  Don't worry about the cooking though, because the Barrett Restaurant Group's catering at the Lake of the Ozarks has that part covered.  Simply give us a call to talk over the type of menu you would like to serve, and we'll cook it up and deliver it directly to your party.  If you need a spot to entertain, we might be able to help you out with that at one of our sister restaurants.  Let us know what you need and we'll do our best to make sure that it happens.

The best waterfront restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks may be closed for the 2015 season, but our kitchen is still available to feed you and all of your family and friends over the holidays.  Thanks to the combined talents of the our three sister restaurants, you can still get the delicious flavor of Dog Days Bar & Grill all year long.  With all of the holiday parties that will be happening in the next few weeks, you're going to be needing us!

The Barrett Restaurant Group is made up of Dog Days Bar & Grill, Shorty Pants Lounge, and Wobbly Boots BBQ.  Every flavor from each of our incredible restaurants is at your disposal.  Your holiday party can feature your favorite dish from any or all of our Lake of the Ozarks restaurants.         

We cater every meal for any size group.

Our chefs are happy to whip up any dish from our regular menus, but they can also work with you to come up with something new.  Not only can you get the appetizer, lunch, and dinner choices that you are familiar with, we can do breakfast too.  We'll lay out an entire meal or make up boxed lunches for your group to grab and go.  

We love cooking for all types of different occasions.  Whether your group is only a few people or an entire warehouse full of workers, we're ready to feed you.  We provide catering for wedding receptions, corporate retreats, seminar breaks, family reunions... wherever there is a group of hungry people, we can be there.  We recently served a local factory of over 500 people during each of their shifts, serving meals at noon, 7 pm, and 3 am!

Once you decide on a customized menu with our chef, we'll prepare everything and bring it to you.  We'll make sure it's hot and ready for everyone at your gathering to dig into.  If you love smoked meat (and if you've tried ours, you do!) we can even bring the smoker to your event.  Soon you will even see our customized catering vans scooting around town, full of deliciousness!  

Holiday party possibilities.

This time of year, holiday parties are happening nearly every week until the new year begins.  Office parties are always better when they have the best catering at the Lake of the Ozarks take care of the food.  If you have lots of family in town for the season, save yourself a lot of time and work and let us do the cooking.  A table full of Dog Day's menu items is sure to keep even the hungriest crowd satisfied.        

Thanksgiving turkeys!

There is still time to call us up and reserve your Thanksgiving turkey.  This year you can pick up a savory bird and all the sides to go along with it from the Barrett Restaurant group.  If you already have your turkey, call us about bringing it in.  We will use our amazing rub on it, toss it in the smoker, and all you have to do is pick it back up and enjoy.

Exciting Dog Days Events for 2016 - Mark Your Calendars!

2015 was one of the best Dog Days Bar & Grill seasons ever! Thank you for helping us to keep the party going all Summer long, well into the Fall. We already have our sights set on next year. MDA In-Water Boat Show - April 15-17, 2016

The Lake of the Ozarks Marine Dealers Association uses Dog Days Bar & Grill to showcase the season's latest and greatest watercrafts.  You will also find lots of vendor booths to explore.  

Canine Cannonball - June 16-19, 2016

This event is a family favorite.  DockDogs attract both pro and amateur pooches to compete in a variety of categories.  2015 saw a new world record set right here at Dog Days Bar & Grill for the Outdoor Extreme Vertical category.  Griz leaped an outstanding 8'9" into the air to beat out all of the other competitors.  Mark your calendars now and start your dog's training. 

Support Our Troops Poker Run - June 24, 2016

The 9th Annual Support Our Troops Poker Run is a fun day of boating and poker playing to raise money for H.E.R.O.E.S. Care, an organization that is dedicated to working with others to provide support to military families in the communities where they live.  A portion of the proceeds are also shared with the Global Orphan Project.  

AquaPalooza - July 16, 2016

The highly anticipated, largest family boating event at the Lake of the Ozarks.  This amazing concert on the water brings out hundreds of boats, thousands of people, and the most exciting bands at the Lake of the Ozarks.  Put on your sunscreen and prepare for five of the best hours of your Summer! 

Shootout Race Pre-Party - August 26, 2016

Shootout weekend has turned into Shootout week, full of all kinds of events and celebrations.  Make sure you pre-party with us before race weekend begins, and come back for the delicious food, tasty beverages, and incredible live music all weekend.

The Fashion

What exactly will everyone be wearing at this disco party?  Well, the fashions of the time tend to be very attention-getting. Big, bold patterns and bright, sparkly fabrics that reflect like the disco ball you'll be dancing under are perfect.  Dresses heavily covered in shiny sequins or gold lame work well, and bell-bottomed lycra catsuits for the ladies will put you right back in the 70's.  As for the fellas, bring out those polyester suits, and don't bother buttoning up that shirt.  All the cool cats love showing off that chest hair and giant medallions.  Most importantly for both the ladies and the gentlemen - the taller the platform shoe, the better!

The Hair

Hairstyles in the discotheques went one of two ways for women.  It was very popular in the 70's to make your hair as long and super straight as possible.  Headbands were used often.  The other extreme was to go for the great big, feathered curls like Farrah Fawcett sported.  As for the men, go for lots of volume.  If you can pull it off, this is the perfect night for a great big afro.   

The Music

The most funkadelic sounds will be played at our annual disco party.  No wallflowers on a night like this.  You can't help but get up and dance when you hear these classic hits. Dr. Cheese will be spinning these and many, many more all night long.

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.  This is a special one for Dog Days Bar & Grill because we are proud to work with the local Dogwood Animal Shelter in various ways throughout the year, including our annual Canine Cannonball.  The best waterfront restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks always welcomes our customers to bring their four-legged friends along with them on our outdoor deck. 

The Dogwood Animal Shelter in Osage Beach has been around for 39 years now.  In 1997 it was declared a no-kill facility.  It now houses approximately 250 animals at all times.  The shelter assists in anywhere between 700-900 adoptions every year, and they spay or neuter between 1200-1500 animals for the public yearly.  Those are some pretty big numbers!

Volunteers and donations are what keeps this shelter running.  Dog Days Bar & Grill donates a booth to the Dogwood Animal Shelter at every annual Canine Cannonball. The shelter uses this booth to promote adoptions and sell any items that they happen to have available at the time, like dog treats or collars.  They also bring along their appointment book for the spay & neuter clinic, doing their best to increase the awareness of the importance of this service.   A portion of the t-shirt sales from this event also goes toward the shelter.

"We really appreciate the Barrett's involvement,"  stated Donna Morris of the Dogwood Animal Shelter.  "It's a great restaurant, and they are a great family.  We are donation funded, and every bit helps."

Their 6-day a week, year-round fundraiser is the Dogwood Thrift Shop, located at 311 S. Business Rte. 5 in Camdenton.  They accept all donations, and tax receipts are available upon request.  All of the proceeds from the thrift store go right back to the animal shelter.  



Fundraisers in addition to the Canine Cannonball include the upcoming Howl-O-Ween Festival on October 24, 2015 from 10 am - 2 pm.  It is free and open to the public, and they promise fun for both 2 and 4-legged family members.  There will be costume contests, games, food, vendor booths, pony rides, and more.  Dog Days has donated to the raffle for this fun event.    

There is also an annual Deck the Docks Benefactor Cruise this December 1, 2015. Enjoy live music and a multi-course dinner on the Celebration Cruise Ship while floating past beautifully lighted docks and lakeside homes.  100% of the proceeds from this event go to the Dogwood Animal Shelter. 

Adopting an animal from the shelter is an excellent way to celebrate Adopt a Shelter Dog (or cat) Month, plus a wonderful way to help out the Dogwood Animal Shelter. There are lots of additional ways to help out besides adoption.  Volunteers are welcome at both the shelter and the thrift shop.  You can visit www.daslakeoftheozarks.com, sign up for the newsletter, and follow their Facebook page.  Simply sharing the Facebook photos of animals that are waiting for adoption can help to find loving homes for these sweet animals.  One of the shelter dogs found a home in Texas this way.  

If you have been thinking about adopting an animal to share your home with, maybe October is the extra incentive that you need.  Go to the Dogwood Animal Shelter's Facebook page and start sharing their homeless cats and dogs.  Your new best friends is probably waiting there for you.  Our waterfront restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks would love to meet them.  Bring them with you the next time that you visit, and don't miss next year's Canine Cannonball June 16-19 at Dog Days Bar & Grill.

Our full Dog Days menu is still available out of our incredible kitchen.  Start out with our Award Winning Smoked Wings or the Lake's favorite Bacon Wrapped Meatballs. Tempting Drinks

It's hard to visit a Lake area restaurant without having at least one Rum Runner.  In the afternoon, with the sun high in the sky, we bet you can still enjoy one on our large outdoor deck.  No worries if it gets too chilly, because there's plenty of room inside too. We've got plenty of beer favorites, and even some Johnny Appleseed Hard Apple Cider to put you in the Fall spirit.  Have you ever tried that with a shot of Fireball in it? You'll have a new favorite when you do!  It's also a great time of year for one of our incredible Bloody Marys.      

Gorgeous View

The view from our outdoor deck is mostly the same as it was all Summer long.  There will just be a few less boats, much calmer water, and very soon, breathtaking colors on all of the trees.  It's a special sight to see.  Savor the Autumn changes while you sit and reminisce about all of those crazy memories you made over the Summer with us.

The Fall Harbor Hop is Turning 30!

The Lake of the Ozarks Annual Fall Harbor Hop has been around for quite a while now. 2015 marks 30 years since this exciting event began.  The best waterfront restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks is one of over 40 participating bars and restaurants.  As an added bonus to all of our awesome customers, Dog Days Bar & Grill in Osage Beach features not one, but 2 card checkpoints!  Here are all of the details about this incredible poker run on the water.

A $20 donation made at your first stop will get you a score sheet and your first card. Some of the checkpoints start as early as 9 am.  Be sure to check the list for opening times when you plan your route.  Each stop will let you draw another card, until you reach seven.  The seventh checkpoint will collect your score sheet.  You may enter more than once, but all poker hands must be turned in by 7 pm to eligible for prizes.  If needed, you will be given the option to purchase an 8th card for an additional $5.

You've only got a few weeks left to sign up for the 16th Annual Bogeys & Beer Golf Tournament.  The best waterfront restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks is excited to get to be a part of this awesome fundraiser.  You get a great day out with some amazing people, you get to spend that day playing golf, all while you raise money for some very worthy causes.

Tournament proceeds will benefit:  Lamb House, Kid's Harbor, Kiwanis Club, L.A.N.I., and the CADV.  Dog Days Bar & Grill is honored to be hosting dinner and awards at our waterfront restaurant in Osage Beach following the tournament.  Boxed lunches are being provided by Mexicali Blues.  There will be lots of items for you to bid on both in silent and live auctions.

Bikefest Entertainment from Dog Days in 2 Locations This Year!

The Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest 2015 is happening September 17-20.  This year you can find the best waterfront restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks in 2 different spots!  Dog Days Bar & Grill in Osage Beach will have all of our regular great food, incredible drinks, and awesome live music going on at the restaurant, plus an added vendor village onsite.  You will also find us at the Harley Davidson dealership in Osage Beach in a tent set up with food, specialty drinks, and a stage full of even more of the best live music at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Full Throttle Magazine is organizing a Vendor Village at our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront restaurant that will be filled with all kinds of awesome biker apparel and merchandise.  We've still got all of your favorites on our menu, plus the featured Single Barrel Jack Daniels Special Menu offering some unique creations like Jack & Maple Smoked Wings, Jack & Apple Pie Nachos, and even a Velvet Elvis cocktail to wash it down with! 

As always, Dog Days will have the best live music at the Lake of the Ozarks on stage all weekend long.
